Organisms have developed biological strategies to adapt to specific conditions of the environment so that they can thrive and perfect such adaptation over millions of year of evolution.
The Deheyn lab performs research under the umbrella of biomimicry, with the main goal to study fundamental aspects of biological properties to understand them and replicate them for developing sustainable technologies inspired by Nature. Such adaptation can address properties at the molecular/cellular level but also higher levels, ranging from structural bioinspiration to biochemical or chemical mimetism. In this particular area of research, the Deheyn lab works closely with engineering colleagues and with the BEST Initiative.
